GianCarlo Montebello (Milan, 1941 – 2020) founded a precious metalworking studio in 1967 with Teresa Pomodoro, dedicated to serving artists.
Later, under the acronym GEM, he launched his activity as a publisher of artist-designed jewelry. Between 1967 and 1978, Montebello collaborated with numerous figures such as César, Sonia Delaunay, Piero Dorazio, Lucio Fontana, Hans Richter, Larry Rivers, Niki de Saint Phalle, Jesús Soto, and Alex Katz, among many others.
Through these works, he organized and curated exhibitions across Europe and the Americas, both in private galleries and museums.

The Superleggeri, created from 2000 onwards, include necklaces, bracelets, and earrings that revisit a “classic” repertoire in the field of body ornamentation. Their shapes are not eccentric: the chain links follow one another with clarity and rhythm, and in the case of the bracelets, it feels like wearing a simple drawing tool on the wrist.
The hallmark of this work is its extreme lightness, and the vibrancy of elements that come alive through the openwork patterns of thin stainless steel sheets.
